About The Event

In this two-day beginner workshop, Alison will introduce you to a wonderful and relaxing craft with a rich history in Nova Scotia: punch needle rug hooking. We'll learn all the basics, from transferring a pattern, to selecting a backing fabric, to all the varieties of fiber that can be used. Each student will use hand-dyed Atlantic Canadian yarn to make a woolen trivet featuring the sailboat to take home. All materials provided.

About your Instructor:

Alison Mitchell is a Lunenburg-based figurative painter and rug hooker. Her work features simplified, stylized subjects using a carefully limited colour palette. Her work can be found at the Teichert Gallery in Halifax and at the Smith and Smith Gallery in Lunenburg during the summer months. She teaches workshops at the Lunenburg Art Gallery and also teaches punch needle rug hooking at the Lunenburg School of the Arts.
