Workshops

Along with the exhibition and festival, local Mi’kmaw artists and knowledge holders will be offering workshops where you can learn about Mi’kmaq Arts and Culture in a hands-on way.

Medicine Walk

with Shawn Feener

July 25, 2022

Join local Mi'kmaw knowledge holder Shawn Feener on a walk through the Acadian Forest in Mi'kma'ki to learn some of the commonly used Mi'kmaw medicines. During the walk, explore the Mi'kmaw concepts of Netukulimk and Etuaptmumk, while learning the stories of each medicine you meet. Lordly Park will be our starting point, come meet us there! Kids accompanied by an adult are welcome, bring the whole family!

Drum Making Workshop

with Peter Pictou

Skilled craftsman, Peter Pictou, will lead participants through the process of making a 15” drum with deer hide, a moose antler handle and a maple wood hoop. No one describes the drum making process better than Peter himself: “Making a drum is a journey and a connection. When you put your energy into the making of your drum, part of your spirit connects with these elements.”

Beaded Earring
Workshop

with Kinsey Francis

August 6, 2022

Under the guidance and expertise of local Mi’kmaw artist, Kinsey Francis, participants will learn how to create their own beaded earrings. By the end of the workshop, participants will not only leave with their own beadwork but a deeper understanding and connection with this traditional art practice. Adults and kids over the age of 10 are welcome! All you need to bring is your creativity, we supply all other materials.
