About The Event

This one-day workshop focuses on learning different decorative (North American) smocking techniques for use in garments and other textile applications. Throughout the class participants will learn the three types of sewing stitches used in decorative smocking, how to read smocking patterns, and ways of further experimenting with the techniques. Everyone will leave the workshop with examples they have created of honeycomb smocking, and other sample smocking designs of their choice.  Materials will be provided. Beginner/Intermediate level–participants should feel comfortable hand stitching with needle and thread.

About your Instructor:

Inbal Newman is a Wisconsin-born printmaker based in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Illustration) from Parsons School of Design in New York, and a Master’s of Design from the Interdisciplinary program at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Inbal was an Artist-in-Residence at the Chester Art Centre in 2023, and has participated in residencies, exhibitions, and print exchanges throughout Canada and the U.S. www.inbalnewman.com
